Trash Collection

  • Service Provider: Kimble Companies handles residential trash collection in Highland Heights.
  • Schedule: Trash is collected weekly. Place your waste containers at the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before your scheduled collection day. Containers must be removed within 12 hours after collection.
  • Container Guidelines:
    • Use durable containers with tight-fitting lids to prevent spillage and deter pests.
    • Do not overfill containers; lids should close completely.
  • Bulk Waste: Items too large for regular containers, such as furniture and appliances, are collected weekly. Place these items at the curb on your regular collection day. Ensure they are positioned at least three feet away from your trash and recycling carts.

Recycling Collection

  • Service Provider: Kimble Companies also manages recycling collection.
  • Schedule: Recycling is collected weekly on the same day as trash. Place recycling containers at the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before your scheduled collection day. Containers must be removed within 12 hours after collection.
  • Accepted Materials:
    • Paper & Boxes: Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, shipping boxes, greeting cards, cereal boxes, and clean pizza boxes.
    • Plastic Bottles, Jugs & Tubs: Containers should be emptied, rinsed, and caps or lids replaced.
    • Glass Bottles & Jars: Empty, rinse, and replace lids.
    • Metal Cans: All metal food and beverage cans.
  • Preparation Guidelines:
    • Empty and rinse all containers.
    • Leave caps and lids on.
    • Do not bag recyclables; place them loose in the recycling cart.
    • Commingle (mix together) recyclables in your recycling cart.

Yard Waste Collection

  • Leaves, Grass, and Brush: The city provides collection services for yard waste. Place leaves, grass clippings, and small branches in biodegradable bags or bundle small branches for curbside collection. Ensure bundles are no longer than 4 feet and weigh no more than 50 pounds.

Special Waste Disposal

  • Household Hazardous Waste: The city participates in the Household Hazardous Waste Collections program sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. Residents can drop off items like paints, chemicals, and batteries at designated times. For specific dates and guidelines, refer to the city’s website.
  • Computer & Electronics Round-Up: The city offers a Computer and Electronics Round-Up Collection Program during specific months. Residents can drop off items such as computers, monitors, keyboards, and other electronics at the Service Department. For dates and times, refer to the city’s website.

Holiday Collection Schedule

Trash and recycling collection may be delayed by one day following major holidays. The holidays observed are:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If your collection day falls on or after these holidays, service will be delayed by one day that week.
